"What I wish most for my children is for both my sons to grow up to be healthy, happy men who respect women. I wish for them to be citizens of the world with open minds and hearts. And I wish for them to truly enjoy their lives and to always love and be loved."

Shari Rosen Ascher,

New York, NY

"What I love most about being an EP is the ability I have to be an active part of my children's lives while I pursue a career. I participate in most of their school and social activities. I enjoy the benefit of working with a partner who has allowed me to grow in both directions. Everyone wins! I love that!"

Maggie Sisco, New York, NY

Home Career Goals:
Shari: After reviewing several top companies, it is obvious. While they may offer flexible work options for families, job sharing is still the least utilized option. This is the only part time option that allows full-time coverage. These companies need to be educated on the benefits. We need clients. Simple.

Maggie: Our goals at ShareGoals are simple. We want to make job sharing a viable option for anyone who wishes to use it. We want to retain Fortune 500 companies as our clients so we can educate and train the managers who may be skeptical of the concept. We want to help job share teams find partners, write presentations to management and have as wonderful an experience with their job share partner as we have. We want to affiliate ourselves with working parents organizations, women's organizations, human resource organizations and work/family organizations to share our experience and expertise with their members.

Home Career Defining Moments:
Shari: It seems that every newspaper we read, every "women's" magazine and every human resource related website we see, has an article about flextime and alternative work options. We know that job sharing is a perfect solution for both employees trying to balance their lives and for employers who are trying to attract and retain employees.

Maggie: When I feel the energy of the "Team Shaggie," it's so rewarding! I love when we are able to work together -- finish each other's sentences and grow ideas off one another. We are so much better together as a TEAM. The things we can create as a team are far greater than our own singular creations!

Home Career Advice:
Shari: Find something that you like to do, that you are good at doing and that is rewarding (financially or emotionally). Explore options and do not be afraid to approach potential clients/managers with alternatives to traditional work options. Today's booming economy is a truly beneficial to experienced employees in all industries.

Maggie: When you have the ability to work at something you love, the drive and desire are energizing. Lost the guilt that you may have when indulging yourself in the pleasure. If you believe that you are growing and developing it will benefit you as a parent. And as a parent, savor the joy that your children embrace! All of this work you create is your own. Celebrate it!

A Voice of Experience

EP Motivating Force:
Shari: Team Shaggie knew that it was time to spread the "Job Share Gospel." We gave a workshop at a local parenting conference and the response was overwhelming. We wrote a business plan and presented to the Chairman of the Board of Interep, who then agreed to back us.

Maggie: We have found a secret to our personal and professional goals. We feel like, "Who is better than us?" Well, you can only feel that way for a short time before you simply have to share the good news. Everyone loves a great good news secret!

EP Musings:
Shari: We are very fortunate to be able to have fulfilling careers and be actively involved mothers to our children. Job sharing provides a working parent with the best of both worlds. We can truly enjoy our time with our children because we are focused on being mommy without appology or interruption. We are also able to sit in our client meetings and devote ourselves to their concerns wholeheartedly. Job sharing is the only part-time option that is truly part-time for the employee, while simulatneously being full-time for the employer.

Maggie: Yesterday, I was at the local "beach" with my girls. As they frolicked with their friends, I spoke with one of the moms. She asked me if I was still working. I told her yes. She was surprised. She said, "But I always see you around. That is amazing." I was so pleased that othe rparents viewed me as a mom who is always on the scene. In the office, co-workers are surpsied I am a Mommy. I love being an international woman of mystery!

EP Advice:
Shari: Think it through and think big! Be realistic and practical when writing your business plan, but don't limit yourself. A good business plan will be the key to opening the doors you need to open. It is the first impression that potential investors or clients will get of you, so make it count.

Maggie: Stay focused. Remain true to your goals. And make certain you've got a great partner that shares your goals!
