- The Entrepreneurial Parent
(TM) was
first launched in February of 1997 as
a joint effort between two
seasoned "EPs": Lisa Roberts, author of How to Raise A
Family & A Career Under One Roof, and deB Sechrist, web producer of Wise
Women of the Web, which features a popular Work-at-Home
Resources Page. Lisa and deB launched the original EP Site at http://members.aol.com/EnParent to
promote Lisa's book and to give deB a high visibility project
to add to her portfolio for her home-based web design business.
Between their two respective
sites, Lisa and deB became swamped with inquires from parents
wanting help in finding ways to work at home. Many asked about
companies who hire telecommuters, others needed ideas on what
to do at home in their own businesses, still others needed to
find ways to blend work and family life more harmoniously. And
many who were already working at home wrote to ask for more information,
resources, support and a place to spread the word about their
businesses.
Because of the increasing demand
for information and support, Lisa and deB teamed up to create
a more comprehensive resource for parents who want to work at
home. The
Entrepreneurial Parent
became their work-in-progress for parents (and grandparents!)
who want to learn more about legitimate and rewarding work at
home options. After two years of building and refining the content,
site design and graphics, deB took a leave of absence to take
care of pressing family matters, while Lisa continues to strengthen
the EP
Community, largely
by teaming up with Paul and Sarah Edwards, renown self-employment
experts, to co-author The Entrepreneurial Parent: How to Earn
Your Living at Home and Still Enjoy Your Family, Your Work and
Your Life (Tarcher/Putnam, May, 2002).
