A Word from A WAHM

"Better Than Sex?"

© 1999, by Cheryl Demas

From my personal experience, and from what I've heard from other Work At Home Moms, nothing compares to the thrill of getting that first big home business check in the mail. Not sex, chocolate, well chocolate comes close, but it still doesn't equal the feeling of earning money from our own businesses)

I donít think it's just the money, of course that's great too, but I think
money also serves as a validation of our businesses. After waiting for months (years) to see a profit, finally making some decent money tells us that maybe this will all work out after all.

My children seem to have the same entrepreneurial streak in them, Ií'm not sure if it's genetic, or if they're learning by example, but theyíre already starting businesses too. Their favorite place to shop has become the office supply store, they love to find new pens and markers, papers and business cards. And they love to raid my office supplies at home. My four year old's favorite tool is the big stapler we bought for her. It's adjustable so you can staple large pieces of paper into books or booklets. She brought it home and immediately started writing books: "The Guy on the Farm" "Where Are My Shoes?" and my favorite: "A Dog Does Whatever It Wants To."

When she was finished, she said, "Okay, now let's go to Barnes and Noble." I wondered why, and she said, "I have to tell them to make room on the shelves so they can sell my books!"

Oh brother, I guess the entrepreneurial acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. Who knows, with such a big head start, she just might make a go of it. So be watching for "A Dog Does Whatever It Wants To", coming soon to a bookstore near you, and I'll be watching the mailbox for her royalty checks.
