As you can see by your replies, there are many people who deal with this issue. It is also very commonplace in the sales industry. There are many books available regarding sales skills, however, there is a book I highly recommend you read titled
Million Dollar Selling Techniques from The Million Dollar Round Table Center for Productivity. This book addresses the psychological aspects as to why people(salespeople included)tend to be apprehensive in similar situations. Instead of switching to something less painful, if you overcome the cause, you may actually enjoy self-promotion which would naturally reinforce your decision and enhance your success in your business. Check your local library. There are more books in this series, but this is the one you should start with.
