Hi Wendy,
I've been in such a situation and it isn't a pretty one at all. I felt guilty constantly for choosing to stay home with my children, which is a full-time job in itself!
I cut back on spending and found alot of tips by typing in "save money", "budget", and such in the search engines. It's hard at first, but you get used to the bargain hunting, clipping coupon lifestyle. It can be quite fun to see what kind of deals you can find and how much you can save.
At the time, I was selling products through a popular home party plan, and I advertised through word of mouth, low cost newspaper ads, and flyers. I had a web site for my business and I was in a banner exchange and I did fairly well. No big success story, but I did manage to make about $50 per month from online sales. Keep in mind though, this was a popular company that also offered co-op advertising. Co-op advertising is basically when a group of associates pool their money to buy ad space then they split the leads according to the amount each has invested. This worked out very well.
I guess I'm just rambling on now, possibly because it's past my bedtime..lol
I wish your friend luck, and remember the best thing you can do for her right now is be there to offer support.
