Great question!
First of all in any business, networking is extremely valuable. So if one has networked throughout the year, one can go to a holiday party put on by a networking orgainization or you can put one on for friends you have made through your networking. I enjoy networking events very much. My husband watches the kids and I go out and become a business woman for a couple hours! Just dressing up is a moral booster.
In regards to your other question, When isn't is a problem. My children are always coming in when I leave the door open. So I close it when I want them out and even lock it when I really want them out!
