I'm registered with several national Mystery Shopping companies.
As a Mystery Shopper, I am hired to go into a store and purchase a specific item from a list that is provided to me by the company. After I leave the store, I write down the date and time, what I purchased, the cost, the name and a description of the clerk, and whatever other information they need.
I have shopped a couple of times, at video stores. The store owners were concerned about late fees, and I did realize that they had reason to be concerned.
The jobs that I was hired to do didn't pay very well, but I did get some free movie rentals out of the deal.
I recommend looking into it. It doesn't really take up too much time, and I usually bring my family with me.
