There are two parts to self promotion that I see as a challenge, at least in the case of small business owners. First, finances. Most entrepreneurs have meager funding available to put into advertising. There are ways to advertise that don't cost a fortune, and I would like to start up a separate thread on those.
The second hurdle is self confidence in being able to approach a potential client. Many of us aren't born sales people and find this very difficult. Then there's also the consideration that many, like myself have small children who aren't yet in school. What to do with the children? I have a couple of family members who will watch them for me on occaison, but I prefer to reserve their help for times when I have doctor or dental appointments.
